The origin of St. Xavier's Public School dates back to 2003 when the school embarked on its long journey first. The school has a humble origin and a tremendous growth. Who else can stand testimony to this great institution than its students, alma matter and numerous satisfied parents over these years! St. Xavier's Public School Pothanicad is owned and governed by the Catholic Diocese of Kothamangalam, inspired by the teachings of Jesus whose values are love, peace, fraternity, equality, joy, service, forgiveness etc. The school having served Pothanicad in the field of education resulting in molding professionally and technically skilled personals.

It was a time when the vast majority of the people in Pothanicad village were living in squalor and misery. The poor were compelled to struggle to earn for a living. A caste-ridden society was the order of the day then. With a spiritual and social thrust and great zeal, many of the tribal here converted into Christianity and became citizens, worthy of God and worthy of our nation. The school started functioning at Pothanicad with 64 students and 6 members of staff. At present the number hit almost thousand. The climate for education is adorable in this rural area with a calm atmosphere, unlike the modern fanfare of cities and towns.

St. Xavier's Senior Secondary School is a C.B.S.E. affiliated (Affl. No. 930706), unaided, co-educational, minority school, situated in the serene village of Pothanicad. The institution is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Kothamangalam and administered by the priests of the diocese. The Patron of the school is the Bishop Mar George Madathikandathil. The school is inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose values are love, peace, fraternity, equality, joy, service, forgiveness etc. The school had a humble origin, in the year 2003.But the present strength exceeded beyond 1100, guided by 85 staff. Now the school has became one of the rated schools in Ernakulum district with excellent academic result and marvelous achievements in various co-curricular activities. As a catholic institution, it tries to promote the holistic development of young people, based on the integral vision of the human person, of life and of the world. St. Xavier's Public School Pothanicad is a Roman Catholic Christian institution administered by the priests of the diocese and fully controlled by the guidance of the Supreme Divine. All its members are advised to follow the rules strictly.Admissions are open to all without any distinction of caste, creed or language. All admission shall be preceded by an entrance test and an interview. The result will be notified from the office. The decision taken by the school authority in this regard is final.Normally admission is given only in play school, L.K.G. to class IX and XI. The prescribed application forms will be available at the school office. No admission will be there to class I unless the kindergarten training is not completed in an English Medium School. Promotion to the next higher class is decided on the basis of the whole year's work of the pupil. Monthly tests, Formative assessments, home work records; handwriting etc. will be taken into consideration. Attendance is a major criterion for promotion. A student who fails in several subjects throughout the year will be asked to leave the school. Application for T.C. should be made through the prescribed form by the parent or the legal guardian. The management reserves the right to compel the parent to withdraw their ward if their conduct is harmful to other students. Irregular attendance, habitual disobedience and conduct injurious to the moral tone of the school, justify dismissal at any time of the year.Students should produce a medical certificate in case they take leave for more than three days due to any illness. Unauthorized absence for more than 15 days will lead to removal from the rolls. Parents are also advised to follow the progress of the child and have healthy contacts with the school authorities and teachers and share their views and suggestions in a spirit of co-operation and good will. They are expected to cooperate with the school by enforcing regularity, punctuality and discipline in their ward and by taking sincere interest in their progress. It is not advisable to plan social functions, tours and pilgrimage on school days with the wards. In all, it must be noted that the school is keen on the children maintaining a presentable personality, language and outlook. Every pupil is expected to keep his decorum and the high tone of the school by excelling in conduct, good manners and cleanliness both in and out of the school.
